Summary

Mingus Reedus was arrested on August 23, 2025, in NYC on charges of assault and criminal obstruction of breathing, later compounded by additional charges of reckless physical injury and aggravated harassment. The arrest comes after severe claims that he committed acts of domestic violence against his girlfriend. His attorney disputes the severity and context of the incident and claims the victim is unwilling to pursue the matter, though a restraining order is in place. This follows a prior incident in 2021, and Mingus is due back in court shortly.

  • Released on. No bail, but a protective order:
    Should avoid the victim.
    The argument of defense.
  • Attorney: Priya Chaudhry (she also defended actor Jonathan Majors in a domestic violence case).
  • Allegedly, Mingus called off the relationship after about five months
  • Premised on several pills on sleeping pills that the woman supposedly ingested in a possible suicide attempt.
  • Mingus himself called the 911 out of concern, and wants the situation to be considered as an aftermath of a misunderstanding.
  • Defense on their part has also said the victim is not desiring to press charges but the case was still pushed by the prosecutors.

The Key Difference from 2021

In 2021, it was a public scuffle with a stranger → easier to minimize as a misunderstanding.
In 2025, it’s domestic violence with strangulation → seen as much more dangerous, so courts will be stricter.

If Mingus violates the protective order (by contacting his girlfriend), that would almost guarantee jail time.

So realistically, unless prosecutors upgrade the strangulation charge to a felony, Mingus is probably heading for another plea deal, but with tougher conditions this time (longer probation, more counseling, stricter monitoring).
