spotify New lossless listening of 24-bit at cheap price to Premium users all over the world. US is in rollout- 24-bit FLAC is planned at $11.99/month.
What’s new
- Spotify has now officially released lossless audio streaming as part of their Premium users.
- Quality is 24-bit / 44.1 kHz FLAC.
- Almost the entire Spotify library (~100 million tracks) will be lossless, but not all of the tracks will be immediately available in FLAC.
Where & when it’s rolling out
- It is steadily implementing in more than 50 countries up to October.
- Some of the initial countries to gain access: United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Australia, Sweden, Netherlands, Austria, New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal, Czechia etc.
- India is not yet confirmed. Indian Spotify Premium users should be able to wait a few more weeks, it has been reported.
Key details & limitations
- Cost: No extra charge. It is part and parcel of current Premium subscriptions – no additional higher tier or so-called super-premium (in the meantime).
- The Enabling: Lossless per device must be enabled by the users manually. The toggle is located within Settings, Media Quality, Lossless (when in WiFi, mobile data or downloads).
- Mobile: Use on mobile and tablets that have Spotify connect. The brands stated to be compatible are Sony, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser, and Sonos and Amazon devices are on the way.
- Bluetooth limitation: Since Bluetooth does not typically have the bandwidth to be played as true lossless, Spotify recommends wired/wi-fi/Connect-based playback to take advantage of this feature.
- Data use: With improved quality, there is greatly increased use of data. Lossless will use up more than normal streaming.
What to watch for
What hints at India perhaps receiving Lossless in the near future (but not yet):
- It is planned to roll out internationally to a total of more than 50 markets by October 2025.

- India: India is not one of the markets to have been confirmed of having lossless access.
- Indian media report on the matter indicates that Indian users will be forced to wait several more weeks.
- Spotify communications claim that a Premium user will be informed in the app when Lossless is made available to them.
TL;DR
- Definite date? Not yet. Spotify has not announced the date of the Lossless launch in India.
- Indian price of Premium plan? $11.99/month Individual, $16.99 /month Duo, $19.99/month Family, $5.99/month Student – will be the very same plans (ad-free, offline, high bitrate) that will eventually acquire the Lossless option.
Conclusion
The long-awaited Lossless audio streaming release by Spotify has turned the music streaming business around. Spotify has finally brought 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLACs to Premium subscribers in more than 50 countries, bringing the service into closer competition with Apple Music and Tidal. This is good news to audiophiles since they do not have to pay fees to have this more serious sound quality; Lossless is included in the already existing Premium plans by Spotify.
The feature however is still on slow rollout and although other markets such as the US, UK, Germany and Japan already have it in place, India is still waiting. It is reported that Indian users might have to wait a few more weeks, however, no official date is proven by Spotify.
Indian Spotify Premium users until this point will still have improved audio quality of the high-quality variety but will have to keep waiting until the real jump to Lossless sounding. The news is an indicator of the new emphasis on value that Spotify places on subscribers and its will to remain at the top of the streaming game, particularly as sound quality becomes one of the primary points of differentiation within the music market, which is saturated.
